I am a Web Designer.
I started with an interest in web design when I was 12 or 13 years old. I taught myself HTML by looking at the source code of other websites over the course of a few years, I never really learned refined HTML until I met my current boyfriend Joseph Crawford when I was 17. He had actual training and was far more advanced than I was at the time and he introduced me into the world of CSS design. Now I use CSS, X-HTML and some of his PHP code thrown in to make my life easier. He has since moved out of web design and I have embraced it. His server is up and he hosts most of the websites listed below, he also offers email etc. He writers PHP and several other web languages I will probably never understand nor write myself. I'm very happy being a web designer and feel with every website my ability and range increases. My prices are very reasonable, well under the normal cost of web design, I give breaks to writers so contact me!
I use Adobe Photoshop at the beginning of all design and I would reommend the program. I'm using a pretty old version of Adobe Photoshop because I just can't afford the new version. When I code I write in HTML-Kit which is an open source (free) web program that I would really recommend. For FTP I use FlashPeak BlazeFtp because my trial ran out of WSFTP Pro and at the time I couldn't afford to buy another year so I found FlashPeak BlazeFtp for free and I've used it ever since.
(Most web designers will tell you that they've designed hundred of websites its just that most of them aren't up anymore or never were up. I'm no different, listed below are just the sites that I have designed that are up and active.)
Websites I have designed
(Organizations/Businesses)
The Jackpine Writers' Bloc
I've been a member of the non-profit organization, The Jackpine Writers' Bloc for several years and offered them my web design knowledge for free. Our site has now become a growing artistic place for me. Every year our group gets bigger and every year I end up designing a new page to accomodate.Visit the website for more information.
Fair Havens Golf Course
Fair Havens Golf Course is a gorgeous eighteen hole course set up in the Minnesota north woods. Golf courses are web designers dreams because of the great opportunities for pictures and, to say the least, Fair Havens was very photogenic.Visit the website for more information.
The Hubbard County Abstract Company Inc.
The Hubbard County Abstract Company, Inc. is the oldest Abstract and Title Insurance company in Park Rapids, Minnesota. It was fall when I did the design and in front of their office building was a gorgeous maple tree. The red leaves became my inspiration and created a lovely, professional website.Visit the website for more information.
The Talking Stick
Being a long-time member of the Jackpine Writers' Bloc and the layout designer of the Talking Stick books, it was only natural that I design a website for them. I used the template of an old book to create a dynamic and interesting place to showcase them.Visit the website for more information.
The League of Minnesota Poets
The League of Minnesota Poets came to me needing a competant, dependable web master who would update when asked. I was really glad to be of service and did this design for them for free. I designed it to be very monochromatic. I wanted it classy and easy to work with. Their main request was "not a lot of bells and whistles" and a website that would load quickly.Visit the website for more information.
Websites I have designed
(Individuals)
Jerry Mevissen (Author)
Jerry Mevissen is an old friend of mine, a fellow Jackpine Writers' member and when he hired me to design his book, the web design went right along with it. Because of the website, we've had good response and sales of his book online, I'm very proud of it.Visit the website for more information.
Candace Simar (Author)
Candace Simar contacted me for a personal website for her inspirational writing and to sell her future novels. I was excited to jump at the chance and was able to use one of my own pictures of a white pine of the front page. She wanted real greens like Minnesota spring and it was a fun website to design!Visit the website for more information.
